Causes on FaceBook

This week, I’m promoting Causes by Project Agape. A FaceBook application with the goal to engage users in various nonprofit causes.  Causes provides “equal opportunity activism.” Fans, staff, volunteer, or grassroot activists, any of them can decide to create and promote your Cause. Project Agape calls it, the democratizing of activism.

“Any Facebook user with a little passion and initiative can create a cause, recruit their friends into that cause, keep everybody in the cause up-to-speed on issues and media related to the cause, and, most importantly, raise money directly through the cause for any U.S. registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit or Canadian registered charity.”

Last week a conversation on Twitter regarding Causes questioned the Return of Investment (ROI) for it. The conversation was sparked by Causes report of first year numbers, which I think were/are great. 80,000 installs; 20,000 causes/nonprofit orgs, $2.5 million dollars raised. It doesn’t even mention that most use for activism and information distribution over fundraising. Personally, for a year one project, I think they are doing swell. But I’d love to see Causes grow to 1 million installations, and for that to happen, more people need to not only promote their Cause or Causes they support; but promote the application Causes as well. The more users, the more activity, the better opportunity for everyone.

So either here or on the wall; (1) Promote Your Cause or Causes; (2) Tell us what you like about Causes the application; and/ or (3) Install Causes the application: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=2318966938
