Another Sunday, another exploited pdf »
Gone are the days when PDF documents were considered safe. Since last year when it was discovered that PDF documents were exploitable, the golden days of the safe PDFs came to an end. I realize I am sounding a little dramatic here, but don’t get me wrong; the threat is very real and malicious. One example [...]

Nonprofits Filling Govt Gaps to Help Still-Recovering New Orleans Hoods| Nonprofit Marketing: Gettin »
The media doesn’t broadcast Katrina images anymore, but these stories are here. Many of them. Grocery stores just reopened in three of these areas, with residents crying with joy in the aisles. Imagine 2 1/2 years without a grocery store nearby. The post office in Lakeview just re-opened earlier this month.

Living the Martyr Lifestyle »
I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that many of us in the nonprofit sector tend to gravitate toward the martyr lifestyle. We work long hours, we worry about work when we’re not there, sometimes, we even dream about it. To some extent, I think that it’s perfectly natural for us to be like this. You don’t work in a nonprofit if you’re not a passionate, caring individual. Sometimes though, that passion carries us too far.

Guiding CASA New Orleans Towards a More Effective Web Site »
One of the great innovations of the Nonprofit Technology Conference(NTC) is its matchmaking of conference participants (mostly nonprofit staffers like you, in marketing or technology) with local nonprofits to solve concrete problems. What a great contribution to the community you’re visiting, and a wonderful opportunity for NTC attendees to meet residents in our field (all too often conference attendance takes place in a bubble).

R U Ready 2 Lead? »
Assuming the impending nonprofit workforce crisis is real and not imagined, we have some work to do. The latest report on the subject, Ready to Lead: Next Generation Leaders Speak Out,* reviews the various factors that will make nonprofit leadership recruitment more difficult in the years to come. Large numbers of retiring Baby Boomers and the money worries of Gen Xers and Gen Yers will constrain the supply of would-be leaders even as we’re drawn into an all-out “war for talent” with the government and business sectors.

Discovering and Listening to Conversations in Twitter »
We all know Twitter is an essential example of the conversations that help define Social Media. What if we could find the conversations that were important to us, even if we don’t follow the people engaged in those conversations? I think it would transform one of the hottest conversation-based communities on the Web into a goldmine of information and and catalyst for forging new relationships.

Applause for Rockefeller’s $500,000 to Study Social Stock Market : Social Business Blog »
In today’s Financial Times it has been announced that the well-known US-based Rockefeller Foundation has pledged $500,000 to conduct a feasibility study of the concept of a social stock exchange (SSE) in the UK. Details of the grantees are not available in the article, but we suspect that SSE pioneers Pradeep Jethi and Mark Campanale are among those whose efforts will benefit from the grant.

Nonprofit Technology Consulting Skills (Basic Seminar Facts) »
April 25, 2008. The field of nonprofit technology consulting has grown and evolved enormously in the last few years. One of the essential tensions in the field is the sense that technology consultants, in order to do their job responsibly, have to become communication and management consultants as well. As nonprofits get more sophisticated and the technology develops to address mission critical needs, this tension is only getting worse. These seminars will address that tension head on, by identifying appropriate roles in the consulting process and by helping technology consultants ground their work in the communication needs of the organizations…
